The Bible Answers
Isn't the Bible a collection of man's wisdom over the years?
As this question would be commonly understood, the answer is No.
Note the following Scripture:
2Peter 1:21: "For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost."
- Although God often used the consciousness, learning, and personal traits of the prophets, yet they did not speak their own words. Throughout the Bible there are reproofs spoken against those who spoke their own message, pretending it was the Word of God. For instance, in Jeremiah 23:21: "I have not sent these prophets, yet they ran: I have not spoken to them, yet they prophesied."
- Scripture is "God breathed." It is the very breath of God, the most intimate and and perfect revelation of God's will and purpose to His people. We are not to seek other revelation, as if the Scripture were insufficient. It is Scripture alone that is necessary.
- Jesus put his stamp of approval upon the Scriptures, directing the men of His day to study the them. They cannot "be broken" or nullified. Heaven and earth may pass away, but the words of God shall not pass away.
- Men are foolish and dull of heart when we do not believe all that the prophets have written. The prophets wrote of Christ. He is the subject of the Scriptures.
Whether or not you will go to heaven when you die is such a critical question that it deserves a good bit of your time and attention. There are many churches that would answer the question the same way that it is answered at this web site, but we would love to have you invest some time and effort to come to Trinity Covenant Church and learn from the Holy Scriptures about these very important things.
